What is a Field School?
Archaeology field schools are typically prohibitively expensive international affairs, where prospective archaeologists must travel far and wide to be certified on actively studied historic sites–but here in Galveston, TX, we are surrounded by history and archaeology in dire need of exploration and preservation. That’s why LX Heritage is proud to offer Archaeology on Island, one of the only affordable field schools in the country.
Hands-on experience
We take archaeology and anthropology students from Texas A&M and put them in the field, where they can gain real hands-on experience with the tools and procedures that will be the lifeblood of their careers. With the Galveston Campus and nearby laboratories of Texas A&M, students are able to dive even deeper into the artifacts and preservation techniques of our local irreplaceable history.
